The Surfing Association of Trinidad and Tobago(SATT)  and  the Caribbean Kids and Families Therapy Organisation(CKFTO), both non-profit organizations, provided a Surf Experience for Special Needs Kids and their siblings on the 5th of September at Las Cuevas Beach.  The aim of this therapeutic experience is to empower the special needs children in a safe, fun and challenging activity while nurturing their relationship with their siblings and parents.

CKFTO’s mission is to provide professional and empathetic therapeutic services to all Caribbean children ages birth to twenty-one with special needs; to provide support and empowerment to families of children with special needs and to educate and involve the community ofTrinidad and Tobago in creating an open and caring society for all persons with special needs.

The Surfing Association is proud to have been involved in this experience and all of our certified instructors and several surfing and non-surfing members assisted in making this a truly ’special’ day for all concerned.

We feel proud to be a part of something that is greater than the association, it’s intitiatives, and the sum of it’s parts. This event will surely become annual event, and perhaps a more frequent event.  Everyone who made it possible, sponsors, volunteers, family, friends, and surfers alike do not need a pat on the back because they can be comforted by the overwhelming joy expressed on the faces of every child present on this special day.

“Gone are the days of surfing’s negative stereotypes, today surfing ambassadores have only positives to pass on to our communities. We are here to share the joy of wave riding and beach culture. We are here to share the joy and love of all the ocean has to offer.” Keith Lewis

Hard Play’s Crew Have a Hot Summer!

Hello Friends and Anglers,
It is great to be back in Tobago now and we are getting ready for our offshore fishing and tournament season here. I just wanted to inform my friends and fellow anglers of our great fishing season in Madeira this past summer. Though we only managed to fish 27 days we had 27 Blue Marlin bites during that time and caught 12 of those Blues with an average weight of 500 pounds. Our largest marlin we estimated at over 750 pounds. We also caught 2 Big Eye Tuna at 100 and 200 pounds and 1 Mako Shark at 130 pounds.
Our boat there “Pesca Grossa” is a known fish raiser and she has proved it again during the 2009 summer. The “Pesca Grossa” is a clean and comfortable express sportfishing boat. Not only is she a great fish raiser she also handles very well and is easy to maneuver on Madeira’s large Blue Marlin.
We would be back in Madeira from mid May to mid September 2010. The “Pesca Grossa” would be available for charter during that time at a cost of Euro: 1,200.00. per day for a maximum of 5 anglers. We also offer a 7 day package which includes 5 full day fishing trips, accommodation at a villa near the Calheta marina and transfers too and from the airport. All of this at a very reasonable rate of  Euro: 1,655.00 per person (based on 4 persons).
The Captains & crew that fished Madeira this summer all agree that this season has seen the best Blue Marlin fishing for the past 14 years and Madeira is still considered the best place on the Planet to catch giant Blue Marlin.
I would also like to inform everyone that we would have one of our boats based in Grenada from January 1st to March 31st 2010. Grenada is the Caribbean best kept secret when it comes to Billfish. Boats average 6 to 8 Billfish strikes per day with good shots at Grand Slams along with really good chances at large Yellow Fin Tuna in the 100 to 200 pound range. Dolphin and Wahoo are also caught there on a regular basis.
Don’t forget Tobago, home base of Hard Play Fishing Charters Ltd and probably the best value for money of any sportfishery in the Caribbean. Great fishing for Dolphin and Wahoo with a good mix of Billfish. Last season the Hard Play II released 31 Blue Marlin, 3 White Marlin and 12 Sailfish from 94 offshore trips. We also caught over 600 Dolphin, Wahoo and Tunas during the same offshore trips.

Information about Madeira and Grenada would be added to our website in the near future.
Good fishing,
Capt. Gerard “Frothy” de Silva.
